AthLink
What exactly does AthLink do?
It receives the times from the Sauron photocells over radio, stores them and sends them to your smartphone over Bluetooth.
Do I need an internet connection?
Not for timing: AthLink and the photocells work even where there is no signal. A connection is needed to sign in, sync sessions and use Athlense Live.
What if a photocell misses a pass?
If the finish pass is missing, double-press the stopwatch button on AthLink to end the run at the time of the press (manual finish), or press it once to mark the run as DNF; otherwise the run closes as DNF when the set limit expires. If the start is missing, you can start the run manually from the app, where you can also correct the passes of each run.
What do the two LEDs mean?
The top LED is about the device: green battery charged, yellow below 20%, red below 5%, blinking yellow fault. The bottom LED is about the network: green live with devices connected, yellow live with no devices, red not ready yet.
How long does the battery last?
Up to 14 hours of use. It charges over USB-C in about 1.5 hours.

How many photocells do I need?
Two for start and finish. For splits, add one photocell per point, up to 8 devices per AthLink.
Do the photocells work outdoors?
Yes, indoors and outdoors. The modulated infrared beam isn't disturbed by sunlight.
How precise is the system?
0.001-second resolution. Every time carries an absolute, GPS-synced timestamp.
How do I mount them?
On any tripod with a standard 1/4" mount. No calibration needed.

Is Sauron's price for one photocell or a pair?
€499 is the price of a single photocell. The €1,199 Athlense kit includes AthLink and two Sauron.
Where do you ship?
Across the European Union. Prices include VAT.
What warranty do the products have?
All products come with the 2-year legal guarantee of conformity.
App and updates
Which phones does the app support?
The Athlense app is available for iOS and Android.
Do I need an account?
Yes. Your account keeps your sessions and makes them available on all your phones.
What happens when I sign out?
Sessions are removed from the phone and remain in your account. If some sessions are not in your account, because they have not been uploaded yet or are kept only on the phone with the Free plan, the app asks whether to export or delete them.
What is the difference between Free and Pro?
With the Free plan, the cloud keeps the 50 most recent sessions from the last 90 days and you can have up to 3 active athletes. Athlense Pro adds your whole history in the cloud, up to 100 athletes, a kit shared with 5 people and Athlense Live, to follow times live from a link.
How is AthLink updated?
From the app: when an update is available, the app downloads it and sends it to AthLink over a temporary Wi-Fi network. If the update is interrupted, AthLink keeps the previous version.
Can I export the times?
Yes, every session exports to CSV or JSON.
